2005 Hearts to begin Saturday
Feb 18, 2005 --
Colleen Jones and her Halifax foursome will be looking for their fifth straight Canadian women’s curling championship -- and sixth title in seven years -- when the Scott Tournament of Hearts begins here at Mile One Stadium on Saturday.
Jones’s Halifax foursome -- Jones, third Kim Kelly, second Mary-Anne Arsenault and lead Nancy Delahunt -- have won the last four straight Canadian women’s titles and also have a fifth title won in 1999. Jones also won a Canadian title back in 1982.
The defending champions will open today with a game against Ontario’s Jenn Hanna.
While no one’s been able to figure out a way to beat the Jones team at the nationals in four years now, Jones maintains her team enters the competition with no clear advantage.
“I’ve always said, there’s not much difference between the first-place team and the last-place team at this thing,” said Jones.
